Charter Weekend

Every year Shirley Lions in common with all other Lions Clubs celebrates the anniversary of the formation of the Club. The celebration is known as a "Charter" event as it marks the date of the granting of the Charter document to the Club upon its formation. Whilst most Lions Clubs celebrate this with a dinner-dance at a local hotel, Shirley Lions like to be different and have become well known for their "Charter Weekends". Not for us the traditional local hotel on a Saturday night, we like to get away for a weekend of fun and fellowship where the members of the Club provide the entertainment !

The first ever weekend away was in 1995 when Lion President Phil Rippington led us off to Dunkirk in France. Whilst we may not been abroad since our Charter venues have ranged from Portsmouth in the south to York in the north and from Cardiff in the west to Norwich in the east. When Dunkirk Lions joined us for that first ever weekend away the traditional was also set that the local Lions Clubs also attended and ever since the Lions from the local clubs have joined in our celebrations.

2012 will be no exception as Lion President Anne Carter invites everyone to join her at the Best Western Webbington Hotel & Spa in Axbridge, Somerset over the weekend April 13th to 15th.
