Youth Activities
Young Ambassador of the 21st Century
The Lions Young Ambassador scheme acknowledges the work of young people working as volunteers and gives them the recognition they deserve, thus boosting their self-esteem, their confidence in themselves and highlighting the charities and volunteer groups with which they are involved. Shirley Lions Club is always keen to hear from young people aged 15 to 19 , who are active in their local community and who would like to take part in the contest. For the Lions year 2011-12 Olivia Sheppard from SoLO ( Solihull Life Opportunities ) represented us in the competition. Whilst unfortunately Olivia did not win, she gave a brilliant presentation and was described by the judges as an exceptional candidate. We all wish her well in her future life. If you would like to represent us in the future in this competition or know someone who may be interested please contact Lion Ken Barker on 0845 833 9547.
The Lions Youth Football Competition is sanctioned by the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish Football Associations and by UEFA. Any "Under 14" boys team playing in its local league and affliated to its County FA, can represent its local Lions Club in this knock-out competition. For nearly 10 years Shirley Lions Club have been proud to support Coldlands Colts in this competition. Coldland Colts have won the District Competition on a number of occasions and recently went all the way to the national final held at Nottingham Forest's City Ground. For season 2011-12 Coldland Colts have two U14 teams and so both have entered the competition. Coldland Colts A have been drawn away to Welland Juniors sponsored by Malvern Lions whilst Coldland Colts B have been drawn at home to Bournville FC sponsored by Moseley & Kings Heath Lions. Watch this space for their results and progress in the competition. For further information please contact Lion Chris Burrows on 0845 833 9547.
This competition is open to young musicians up to the age of 23. Each year the Lion's Europa Forum host country selects an instrument for the competition and also a piece of music, which each candidate is required to play. For 2010/11 the selected instrument is the oboe and for details of the competition please go to www.lions105m.org.uk/music.htm or contact Lion Mike Cooke on 0845 833 9547.
